  • In August 2019 East Java experienced inflation of 0.12 percent. Seven cities experienced inflation and one city experienced deflation. The highest inflation in Jember reached 0.33 percent, while deflation occurred in Kediri by 0.23 percent.
  • Of the seven expenditure groups, five groups experienced inflation and two groups experienced deflation. The group experiencing the highest inflation was the Education, Recreation, and Sports group of 1.55 percent, while the group that experienced the highest deflation was the Foodstuffs group of 0.57 percent.
  • The main commodities that contributed to the largest inflation in East Java in August 2019 were gold jewelery, elementary school fees, and cayenne pepper. While the commodities that contributed the biggest deflation were onions, vegetable tomatoes, and air transportation.
  • The inflation rate of the East Java calendar year in August 2019 reached 1.44 percent, while the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2019 against August 2018) reached 2.51 percent.
  • In August 2019 the core group experienced inflation of 0.44 percent, the government-regulated component experienced a deflation of 0.23 percent, and the volatile component experienced a deflation of 0.66 percent.
