Abstract

  • Farmers Terms of Trade (NTP) is a comparison of the price index received by farmers (It) to the price index paid by farmers (Ib).
  • NTP is one indicator to see the level of ability/purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also shows the exchange power (terms of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs.
  • The East Java Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) for March 2023 rose 0.41 percent from 106.37 to 106.82. The increase in FTT was due to the price index received by farmers (It) which increased by 0.70 percent higher than the price index paid by farmers (Ib) which increased by 0.28 percent.
  • In March 2023, four agricultural sub-sectors experienced an increase in NTP and one other sub-sector experienced a decrease in NTP. The sub-sector that experienced the largest increase in NTP occurred in the Horticulture sub-sector by 5.27 percent from 116.31 to 122.45, followed by the Livestock sub-sector by 0.24 percent from 101.08 to 101.32, the Fisheries sub-sector by 0.10 percent from 100 .15 to 100.25, the People's Plantation Crops sub-sector by 0.09 percent from 101.41 to 101.50. The only sub-sector that experienced a decline in NTP was the Food Crops sub-sector with a decrease of 0.51 percent from 107.69 to 107.15.
  • Of the five provinces on Java Island that carried out NTP calculations in March 2023, East Java Province was the only province that experienced an increase in NTP with an increase of 0.41 percent. Meanwhile, other provinces experienced a decline, with the largest decrease in NTP occurring in Banten Province by 1.67 percent, followed by West Java by 1.43 percent, Central Java by 1.36 percent, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta by 0.79 percent.
