Gresik Regency Micro and Small Industry Profile, 2021

The impact of COVID-19 is also being felt by the micro and small scale processing industry (IMK). This condition was different from the economic crisis in Indonesia in 1998, when IMK was able to survive and even became one of the economic actors that became the savior of the Indonesian economy. Even though the added value to production generated by IMK is relatively very small compared to medium and large scale processing industries, this industrial group is able to absorb a large number of workers, especially women workers in the informal sector. The characteristics of IMK related to flexibility and ability to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions (Azrin, 2004) make it a buffer for the economy in reducing unemployment and alleviating poverty. This characteristic has been proven during the past several economic crises and this time it was tested again during the pandemic era. The effectiveness of the implementation of the assistance program for industrial performance during a pandemic can be measured by analyzing various aspects and presented in the form of a profile. The purpose of writing this IMK 2021 profile is to provide an overview of IMK businesses in East Java, especially Gresik Regency during 2021. This general description includes the number of businesses, workers and employee compensation, and business description which includes constraints, business partnership patterns, sources of capital and access to finance, use of the internet, innovation, mentoring, and marketing. The general description of the business is expected to enrich information related to the micro and small scale processing industry. Besides that, it can be used as one of the materials for policy makers, especially in the manufacturing industry sector.
