Abstract

The availability of timely and accurate agricultural data is the foundation for realizing targeted agricultural policies. Since 2018, BPS has collaborated with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) & the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) which are now merged into the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Ministry of ATR/BPN), and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) to improve the methodology for calculating the area of rice harvest through the application of objective measurement by utilizing advances in information and communication technology and the availability of high-resolution satellite imagery. This collaboration was realized in an activity entitled "Integrated Agricultural Statistics Data Collection for Food Crops with the Area Sample Framework Method (KSA)" or better known as the KSA Survey. The implementation of the KSA Survey for rice commodities began to be implemented nationally in 2018. Field observations of the KSA Survey were carried out on the last 7 (seven) days of each month. Based on the results of the KSA Survey, in 2023, the rice harvest area in Gresik Regency reached around 66.20 thousand hectares or increased by 2.92 thousand hectares (4.61 percent) compared to 2022. Meanwhile, rice production in 2023 was 417.43 thousand tons of dry milled grain (GKG). If converted into rice, rice production in 2023 will reach around 241.03 thousand tons, or an increase of 3.57 thousand tons (1.5 percent) compared to rice production in 2022. In addition to producing an estimate of the harvest area, the KSA Survey also provides an overview of other rice phases, such as the area of early vegetative, late vegetative, generative phases, potential for crop failure, area of fallow agricultural land, and area of agricultural land planted with crops other than rice.
